Northern Ontario Hosts the 48th Hydrant Championships

From March 22nd - April 1st, 2007, Fire Fighters visited Thunder Bay, Ontario and participated in the 48th Annual MDC National Hydrant Championships.
In 1999, MDC warmly welcomed the proposed support offered by the Canadian Fire Fighter Curling Association (CFFCA). As a result, the championship trophy was renamed to reflect the new relationship of the CFFCA and MDC.
During these Championships not only are the Fire Fighters on the ice curling but they also have fun raising money and awareness for MDC. Through the various fundraising events along with cash donations from Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Service, D.R.D. Construction Services, the Prince Arthur Hotel and Suites as well as the CFFCA a total of $8,807.93 was raised. Thanks to the sponsors, the community of Thunder Bay, the Fire Fighters, and their families and friends. MDC would like to give special thanks to Ken Kurz for all of his effort.
Congratulations to Team Southern Ontario for taking home the Hydrant Trophy. From everyone at MDC and from the thousands of Canadians who you give hope to every day, you are all champions. Thanks for making muscles move.

8-Ender Scored by Northwest Territories:

This once in a lifetime 8-ender was scored by the Northwest Territories team of Roger Pilling, Pat Rowe, Mike Grande and Steve Moss in the first end of their round robin game against Quebec. It is only the second 8-ender that anyone can remember in this competition. According to CFFCA President, Lyle Wiebe (who should know, if anyone does), British Columbia scored an 8 ender against Saskatchewan in 2000 in Truro, N.S.

The CCA recently announced that the "delivery stick" would be banned from all National Championships. Due to recent developments through the CCA the CFFCA has made the decision that the "stick" may be used at the Nationals. Please ensure that all provincial players are made aware of this so that no one misses out on playing.
Any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Bill MacPhee, CFFCA Secretary.
